You have a website, but zero traffic? This article explains SEO in the simplest terms possible, and why most websites are nearly invisible on Google.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is simply: everything you do to make your website rank higher in Google search results.
When someone searches "café in Taipei" or "web design quote," Google picks the most relevant pages from billions of options. SEO is the process of making Google believe your page deserves to be at the top.
Most websites with zero traffic share a few common problems:
1. Google doesn't know your website exists
After a new website launches, Google needs time to "crawl" it and add it to its index. Without submitting a sitemap, this can take months.
2. No keyword optimization
Your page title might just say "Home" and your description might be blank. Google doesn't know what your site is about — so it won't show it to people who need it.
3. No content
Google rewards websites with content. A site with a few pages and a few hundred words has almost no value in Google's eyes.
4. No other websites linking to you
External links (backlinks) are a major ranking factor. New websites have almost none, making it hard to rank.
Basics (do these now):
Medium-term (1–3 months):
Long-term (ongoing):
Honestly: 3–6 months to start seeing movement, 12 months for significant results.
SEO is a long-term investment, not a quick fix. But once you start ranking, the traffic is essentially free and keeps coming.
